What new faction do you want?

+1. How they can even consider a new faction when there are 2 (RRF included) underdeveloped factions is beyond me.

Cardassian. Gul Dukat was a great character. He would smile in your face while he was stabbing you in the back.

I think especially technical wise the borg would be a great new faction. Just imagine to assimilate others in ground fights and have a group of 40 pets in one instance :-D :-D

Borg assimilation would be good but a little overpowering in my opinion. Though it would be fun to watch all your drones running around killing or assimilated

And considering that the RRF and KDF were space fairing groups long before there was a Federation. Should be the Federation that is catching up technologically. Not the other way around. LOL

Yeah, borg is definitely not conducive to the game at all. I would love a cardassian faction and at this point it would seem the more logical one.

The only hit though is that I don't think it's a faction that could be played from day one. The STO story begins in 2409 and I think it would be a faction that has to start in 2410.

Although they were able to do it with the RRF so I guess there's no reason why they can't be from 2409. My worry is that with the shear level of story content already built for the current 3, there is no way they can just "insert" the cardassians without writing a whole story arc from 1-60 separate from what's already there

Realistically they could do the Dominion.  Open up a whole new area of sector space in the Gamma Quadrant, create a compelling story which ties them into the events of the arc so far - especially seen in how Sela brings them in during the Iconian Arc.  The presence of changelings etc. allows a bit more freedom to be inserted into other stories up to that point (kind of do either Fed or KDF mission arcs but not actually be Fed or KDF but undercover).

Opening up the Gamma Quadrant certainly seems the next logical move following Delta Rising

How would you imagine that would look for playable races?

Nercomancer for the thread lol

HORTA no kill no kill

The devs consider the Borg already covered by the liberated option in the C-Store and by subscribing.

Least likely: The Undine. they would be problematic with the necessity of having to always transwarp to fluidic space just to get to their faction base, plus they would likely not be able to get into faction free zones either.

The Tholians are also remotely possible yet unlikely since they have not been fully delved into backstory-wise despite having their ships in lockboxes, a reputation tree, and a battlezone... But then again, the Vaadwaur were fully developed and aren't playable either- only RPG dressup-able. also like the Undine, they have extra limbs, which would also open up the possibility of a xindi insectoid.... come to think of it, we don't have any of the xindi as a premade species either...

The Dominion/TrueWay is only slightly possible as one of the species from the Gamma Quadrant Doff Cadre, but not the changelings. They would be considered too overpowered, especially in terms of melee. But the shapeshifting could be done the same way as the personal holographic projections with a different bleedthrough effect, but it would also make doing the same attacks we see the NPCs do take up slot space. As for the lesser species, I can see it playing out like a rehash of what the KDF was like when the game started, problems and shortfalls included. But I think that there would be a bit of flack from players that shelled out tons of money to get the Dominion ships and then just have to level up as a character of that faction to get those same ships (in a lower tier version of course)

If anything, there could be some new recruits for the Gamma Quadrant (again using the secondary species listed in the GQ doff cadre, including Cardassian since some likely stayed there after the war ended) like a rehash of the Delta Recruits event for if/when the Gamma Quadrant does become navigable. This is possible because the Dominion didn't actually own the space that the Wormhole is in, just occupied it (like Germany taking France or the North African Deserts) once the war was in full swing. That could happen as soon as season 13/14.

But, most of these species are achieved by just using the alien option, which is what many players are apparently doing to take advantage of being able to choose what we can put into the 10th trait slot that is locked for pre-made species. The problem with creating a whole new faction is that they have to be able to use the infrastructure that already exists for the faction free zones. Otherwise it seems logical that they would make a Terran Empire faction, that would allow for the ways of questing and promotions from both initial factions. Execute your incompetent doffs in the mess hall of your sovereign to restore obedience and loyalty, or assassinate your superior to become captain on your heavy cruiser... lots of people would go for that. But that is highly unlikely for the same negatives of each of the above possibilities.

I could see them opening the Gamma Quadrant but I don't think there is much you can do with it.
