Review: Ratkajeno in a Jar
#1
Mission Name: Raktajino in a Jar

Author: drogyn1701

Level: 16+

Start: Ganalda System, Eta Eridani Sector Block

Summary: Taking a Ferengi captain's stash of gold-pressed latinum sounds
like great idea, right? Think again! Accused of murder most foul, you
must navigate treacherous females, the Ferengi legal system and the
psychotic filled prison to get free of the mess you created.

An easy five stars!

This is a quick mission (maybe around 20 minutes) that's not too difficult, but is loads of fun. The author took a great folk song (Whiskey in the Jar) and turned it into a fun romp. The summary above is straight forward enough, and if you know the song, you know what to expect from this mission.

It's filled with funny dialogue, with some nice tongue in cheek references to the song--but you won't miss out on the jokes if you don't know it. Most of the mission is dialogue and figuring things out--I'd hesitate to call them puzzles--but there's a bit of combat as well. For your first Spotlight mission of the day, it's a great simple choice, if you're not looking for a challenge.

But that's the only real negative about this mission--it's dead easy. One fight with a bunch of Naussicans lasted literally seconds, and was the "combat highlight" of the mission. But you're not here to beat on Ferengi--you're here to enjoy a night on the town care of his latinum, Definately check it out.

I'm just getting into the Foundry, and am shocked at how good some of them are--better than the missions that Cryptic publishes, sometimes.
But then there are duds, so it's good to have a place here where we can review the good ones.

Yes it is! Keep the reviews coming, it's nice to have a Foundry path when I'm looking for something to do. I hate the dud missions... total waste of time.

Tell me about it--I tried one called "Kill 'em All," which was supposed to be an EC grind. It said it would be quick. The mission starts in space on a small map with a couple dozen Typhoon class destroyers (with tractor beams), all firing at once. I was destroyed over and over again, in seconds--after twenty minutes of trying, I managed to kill one of them, and realized the group was the first wave of 14. Somehow I think even excellent players would have a hard time of this one.

ya Tobia that is because they changed how the mobs worked because of people abusing the foundry by making and playing missions like that one. Used to be those mobs wouldnt have fired period but they fixed that so they do now. Foundry is better because of it.

Really, they wouldn't have fired at all? In that case, I can see why it was created as a grind--and I agree, the Foundry is better for changing it. I don't mind playing missions that have a good payout, but I want to play the mission, not shoot fish in a barrel. Smile

Ya you could set things to be 100% passive. They changed it to where things can be set as passive but if they take damage they start attacking.
