Noob Sector Map question. (Is there a Map Key?)

Maybe its just me, but I can't, for the life of me, figure out what the (system icons?) mean on the sector map.  I get the basic star represents a system, but what about the others.  For example, the brackets, star bases with red triangles, plan red triangles, red triangles with explanation mark, duty officer icon, etc.. There are others but if I learned what those were, it would be a good start.  

Also, I've seen flotillas around, what can you do with those? 

I'm sure I'd eventually figure all this out through missions, it just bugged me that I couldn't' find an STO Legend or map key.  Thanks!  And sorry in advance if this information is out there somewhere.
