Just watched episode 13 and the WTF moments JUST WON'T STOP.
So far the first season of EVERY Trek series had its issues, but Discovery surprisingly (and I can't believe I'm actually saying it) DOES NOT disappoint.
Ok i need to go on a little side rant, not about the episodes but about how some people on various forums across the internet are having a problem about abbreviations.
So one of the groups im on in Facebook has decided to go all draconian on members that aren't completely swooning to the current series and have decided to brand STD as a "hater term". (and no it's not a discovery specific group lol) But I don't get taking it that far- There *really* should not be so much butt hurt over whether someone uses STD instead of DIS, DSC, or DISCO to abbreviate Discovery. What is said and how it's said after using the three letters of choice should be more in focus, not just stopping at those three letters.
STD was the first abbreviation that the audience knew the series by since its initial announcement in 2015, along with DIS, before the producers settled on an official abbreviation of DSC. Were all those talk show hosts (like Jimmy Fallon, IIRC) that jumped on the initial abbreviation for comedic satire being haters then too? No, they weren't- they were just being funny. People having conniptions starting at how a show is abbreviated is... well, it's ridiculous/childish.
We all have our own points of view on where the franchise is currently and where it will end up in the near and long term. Even though lots of people may still use STD to identify Discovery, I for one am still going to LOVE the star trek franchise as a whole and try to retcon all the errors and disregards from canon that the producers have given us (like the theories i posted above) rather than deal in absolutes of branding the "STD" abbreviation as synonymous with hating trek outright. EVERY show in the franchise had its faults and fumbles just as much as its feats, and the current series is certainly NO exception to that occurrence. The last couple episodes have greatly improved overall (GREAT even) and the cast have done the best they can with the scripts they've been given. So it really shouldn't be such a big deal what abbreviation each of us still uses, as long as we still know what show we are talking about.
I was a little surprised at how they ended the war. I was expecting it to continue over to season 2, but I think they did a decent job of tying it all up. L'Rell will make for an interesting leader for the Klingons, especially with Tyler with her. And I have no doubt the Emperor will be around to cause trouble for seasons to come, as well as Harry Mudd (brilliant casting of Rainn Wilson in my opinion).
I'm also quite interested to see who the new captain will be. Not sure I should assume it's a Vulcan since they were on their way there, but it'd be an interesting choice.
I couldn't help but smile when I saw the registry numbers popping up on the screen. As soon as the comm officer said "Captain Pike," I noticed the look between Burnham and Sarek and immediately thought, "Spock!" His appearance in the show should be interesting, though I'm sure there will be shouts of rage from certain elements of the fandom over the casting, no matter who they get.
Ohhhhh, the Enterprise. How lovely she looked in full HD, and in her (mostly) classic appearance. I don't even care about the little differences in how she looked. Have to admit, I got a little misty at the last shot and then the TOS end credits music. Pretty damn awesome way to wrap up the season. Can't wait for the next one.

Apart from some small embellishments to her overall design she looked pretty much as she was before JJ trek. The nacelle pylons looked like they had a gap towards the trailing edge but hey...its the lady
Made my night!
Shame we have to wait so long for season 2 though. I really have thoroughly enjoyed this new look Trek.
I definitely award this new series 9 out of 10 tribbles

It's all been said already and I have to agree. I had my reservations about Discovery, but I have NOT been disappointed. I can't wait for Season 2. It's going to be a tough year.
They've done a good job overall with the series. I'm curious to see how they'll handle the interior of the enterprise, if we get to see it at all. Maybe some sort of cross between the old look and Discovery's more modern look. What about the uniforms? Does the crew have Discovery's uniforms or the old t-shirts? Definitely a lot to look forward to, assuming Season 2 takes place where 1 left off. That would be cruel if it didn't lol
I guess, the meaning of the black insignia is now revealed. But it raises more questions. Why would there be active Starfleet personnel openly wearing it, like they did in episode 3?

The scene looks like it came out of Star Wars. I haven't seen it yet, i might try to do the week free thing and binge it in a day. But eh section 31 and the mirror universe is not something I want to watch.
