Weapon types vs species specific ships?

I am seeking general guide lines on specific ship weapon types that are highly effective against ships and equipment used by different enemy types. I would like to create multiple load-outs geared at this. I would like to hear every ones opinions on what they have discovered to be effective.

In STO enemies generally aren't weak against certain types of damage. Of course there are exceptions to every rule, for example Melee weapons and shotguns are good against the Borg on the ground since they can't adapt to them. I really can't think of similar examples in space.

The only example I can think of as far as space gear goes is the bio-molecular phaser/disruptor weapons from the Undine reputation that do additional damage against Undine targets.

So it's more likely I need to focus on a defensive posture as opposed to offensive. Find out which weapons are species prominent and apply consoles against these types. Does this seem more viable?

that will help if you are going for a tanking build, but in general it is usually better to just take them out before they take you out... like tonight's scene in star trek: orville

Lol. I love the reference. I am hoping my theory allows me to do just that. If I can better isolate my ship from the weapon types a certain species uses maybe I can outlast them in battle. Especially against multiple attackers. After that I just need to upgrade my weapons systems for optimum damage.

I just finally settled on a weapon type. Now I need to focus on lots of upgrading. Hope there is an upgrade weekend soon. I'm running low on resources with the colony and trying to get an Ico space set.

For future reference when you get a phoenix weekend followed by dill weekend an upgrade weekend is very likely to follow. Also remember to check the calendar in game (they sometimes give advance warning)

Thanks for the heads up. I have some one crafting some superior upgrades for me. Hope they get them done for me on time. Fingers crossed.
