I grinded it harder this morning (I think I need to learn key binds from someone....wish I could set up the hot keys to simultaneously group together and activate certain powers and abilities in order to combine 3-4 abilities together)...also wish I could put my BOffs on some sort of "timer" that activates certain abilities at certain intervals by the push of a single tray button.

So to be able to run the fleet pve's for commendations, how much dps do you need to not be a drag on the rest of the team?

That would depend on normal, advanced, or elite. I am only pushing about 10k and do fine in advanced. I get destroyed in elite. Not sure what the breaking limit is there. Hope someone throws up and answer to that because I am curious too.

Thanks for reminding me I need to set a date for January's pve run.

For advanced, which is all I will be running - I will not set a min dps or gear. The only thing I do expect is that everyone uses the best character and gear they have available and do their best and obey instructions given. At worst we miss the odd optional aim of the stf, but I have never failed an Advanced.

Elite is a different altogether. But I have only done the odd Elite space PVE and they are tough.

I was thinking of the fleet elite pve's for the commendations.  Most of the ships I fly on my main toon are 10k+ on ISA, but they are always works in progress.

I believe most of the fleets' Pve can be done on advanced or elite. I would check as I am really just getting to that point myself so I haven't researched that deeply. I would stick with advanced for now. I've tried a few elite (non-fleet) Pves' out of curiosity and they are brutal! You definitely need a "high end" ship for those.

Any Elite STFs will take quite some planning and would invariably have pre-requisite conditions attached in terms of gear and maybe ships. So in the mean time continue working on your ships, get all your reputations boxed off Esp Space traits). And I would not overly worry about high dps if that is not your forte so long as you have survivabilty.
