combat log

ok, so i installed the STO combat meter and have been fiddling with it. I just ran a pve borg red alert and graphed at 7.6k dps for the event.  My largest one shot was 86k. The question is this: how could you possibly get to 100k+ dps?  It seems to me that you would have to be doing close to 1mil damage per hit to keep that average up during the times you are flying to the next target or whatever. Do i have this right, or am I missing something?

I have been reading up on this try running it with the foundry mission DPSMark the DPS League have created it as a bench mark and that might help. And you will get results from just your own input (must be done on advance)

that's not really what i was asking.  I tried that mission, which you have to do on ADVANCED and got my butt handed to me. I couldn't even finish it.  I'm asking how the 100k dps gets reached if it is basically from what i'm seeing your average, factoring in the times you are actively engaged with targets and times when you are not and are locating the next set of targets.

like i said in the other thread, DPS Mark in the foundry is only for use for those that are well over 100k DPS since anything you can solo in default missions is no competition at that point.

in order to get an accurate reading of dps, you have to keep your (or a pet's) shots going off at almost every second. that's why you should only be using PVE missions of ISA, HSA, and CCA to conduct your readings. you can also get readings from the Tau Dewa Patrol Circuit missions [Japori (Nausicaans), Carraya (Tal Shiar), Gamma Eridon (Gorn), Narendra (Hirogen), Archer (Tholians), Beta Thoridor (Klingons)] which is usually the only way to get a parse on the Tribble Test Server since hardly anyone is ever on there without preplanning a team meetup for the pve runs.

you can't get an accurate parse in the Borg Red Alert because of all the running around you have to do to each squadron of borg ships, which can take a moment, which kills the dps reading. that's also why i said that if you do try to do DPS Mark anyways, you'll have to end parsing and wait several minutes before continuing after you die to reset the parse as a separate battle.

how accurate a reading do you think someone could get using it in the sit still and farm foundry missions?

i have previously tried that with the one that spawns the enemies in a hole between several stations facing the wrong way so you have an unfair flanking advantage and can reroute all your engine power into weapons and aux. My results seem to have been 90% of what i was measuring in a PUG ISA that wasn't full of idiots. so you *could* use it as a poor man's DPS Mark, but most players don't have optimal dps readings because of how they maneuver or who they are grouped with automatically. so it can only tell you your raw output with those important factors out of the equation. I have NOT tried this method post Nerfmageddon.

That's the CombatLogReader (CLR). The STO Combat Meter (SCM) is available at the other one: http://dps.shivtr.com/pages/STOSCM

Which one you use depends on your preferences.
