Just wondering. Since the No-Win Scenario is not available anymore, will completing the timed version of the Kobayashi Maru Event count towards the James T. Kirk Order of Tactics?
Chance for the James T. Kirk Order of Tactics?

Unfortunately not.
Much like that last limited time event, because this event is not a permanent fixture, we will not be awarding the commendation. J Sent from my F5121 using Tapatalk

Can I suggest a commedation, though for all I know this might exist.
How about a event commedation? Complete so many of these events as or in the fleet. Or would that be to complicated or not enough to really make it worthwhile

It wouldn't be complicated at all, however we do have several commendations that fulfill that criteria:
![]() I could rant on about how such decisions over similar matters (like the dil vs combat boosts FAIL) in just this last year have forced a noticeable number of seasoned vets to leave because the Admiralty said "no we're not going to bother with that" instead of finding a way with the rest of the fleet to make it work, but instead i'll just get right to the point in this particular instance: IF there is absolutely no chance of EVER revitalizing old achievements, then quit advertising them! (or move them to a different page) ![]()

Problem is not, that this particular Commendation is unattainable. The problem is that the vast majority of the Fleet is unable or unwilling to participate in general events to earn the teamplay-based Commendations.

That was one point I was going to rant on about, people aren't going to be as interested in doing fleet activities if there's nothing to be gained from it compared to just doing a PUG. That's stagnation- one of the things the admiralty of ANY fleet should try to prevent. Like the Arena of Sompek discussion- an event that keeps going on and on until everyone dies is by its very definition a "No Win Scenario." Simple change in the wording from "the" to "a" would have been the only change needed to make it qualify while still preserving the criteria of the original mission. And with Cryptic turning the original NWS into this weekend event, historically speaking, I doubt there's a snowball's chance in Hell that they would restore it to a regular pve.

For starters, we aren't queuing the dilithium boost over the combat boost. We're alternating between the two which is a fair compromise. Neither is necessary to enjoy the game. They are just fun bonuses.
Second, these limited time events are by definition unattainable by all members, because not all members are around when these events take place. We made the decision when Sompek came out that it would be unfair to have a commendation that focused around limited time events. We stand by that decision. I'd also like to point out that fleet activities are meant to be social. Saying that people only do activities to gain something is an insult to myself and every member who helped build this fleet over the years. The very core of STOA is to socialize and help everyone without asking for anything in return. I'm disappointed to hear you think otherwise.

To say as well you don't think there's a snowballs chance - just look at what we got when the Sompek arena finished - we got new War Games scenarios which is something that this game badly needed and should have had a long time ago. Not only that, we'll be doing something with those scenarios in the coming months.
The Kobayashi Maru is the catalyst of the NWS, yes - but as before, it is a limited time event (and because it's a weekend at short notice, people like myself wont get to do it), and is a brilliant precursor to Cryptic bringing the NWS back to us if this scenario works. We will wait for that, but as it stands, the reasons why are already well documented and do stand.

The universe well knows, that I not always agree with the Admiralty, but THIS time I HAVE to defend them (although they don't need defending). "People aren't going to be as interested in doing fleet activities, if there's nothing to be gained?" I know, where you are coming from and I very well know how frustrating your point of view can be. You need to remember one thing: the STO Academy fleet is a place for people who are going to enjoy the game THEIR way. The best thing about this fleet is that nothing is enforced on people. If they don't want to interact with the others, then it is just like that. I am willingly admitting, that it took me a very (way too) long time to accept that. Having said that, our Fleet members have very well the chance to engage in activities together and gain something from it: Commendations for promotions. The majority just seem to choose the easy way by focusing on the individual Commendations, if at all. I don't have the exact numbers anymore, but the Fleet comprises of about 700 Fleet members on average at the account level. Now take a very close look at the specialist commendations and how many recipients there are:
Changing the criteria of just one Commendation is just not going to change that. |
