I think the thing to take away is -
Don't mix your energy types! Go for what you fancy, but stick to one type of damage. It can also important to stick to cannon type (DHC, DC, C, Turrets) or beam weapons to get the most from boff abilities.

I run with Phasers on my Fleet Defiant- anything else would feel strange

As long as you run the DEDM consoles for beams/prefires for cannons you can still pump out tons of damage. At Mk XI rare its 17.5% vs 26.2% damage boost which after skills etc isn't really much of a drop. I did used to do it to make a point whilst parsing, had more than my fair share of ragers go silent on me once I show them in a parse my ship was still doing a couple k dps more than theirs

But still less damage than if you stuck with one type and stacked the tac consoles for it.......

Oh, for the most part I entirely agree about sticking to one energy type, cookie cutter layout etc. Just nice to explore the alternatives sometimes and have a bit of fun!

Complete 250 Beam on a Vesta with Sci Profession and Broadside Flying - no peak build but constantly good dps.
Without much work I'm at the moment at 4k+ (Polaron + Poloran consoles)
