New Science Healer in need of some skill advice
#1
Hello, I just started STO a few days ago.  In past MMOs, I have always done a more support healer or even control role, so I picked a science officer hoping to do the same thing.  As a friend really recommend your guys sight for advice, I was happy to find many builds on your website (see links below).  Unfortunately, many of the builds were pre-v6, so I am unable to look at the skills to get an idea of what skills in the tree might be good.    Therefore, I am coming to you all hoping for advice on skills (or builds) a healer should invested in sto.

P.S.  For reference: here is my current botched build: http://skillplanner.stoacademy.com/6628a...5035859651 . I realized after reading your stuff, I kind of already botched things a bit by investing 3 tiers in some early game Lieutenant skills.   I am hoping though with a good advice, I can turn this build around into a proper healer with light dps (kiting).

P.P.S.   Thank you BerryRJ for updating your build, I was able to gleam some information from it.

In my opinion science isn't the best for a healer.  I like engineers for healing because their miracle worker ability lets them heal themselves without using an ability you could use to heal someone else and the EPS ability boosts your power levels making your heals stronger.  I also like cruisers for healing because engineering boffs in my opinion have better healing abilities, thinking about the t6 Fleet Mogh Battle Cruiser for a healer build on my KDF engineer.

Yeah I heard that engineering is overall a better healer despite the fact the Probability Field affects shield heals similar to how critical's work in FF XIV.  Still its not used crying over spilled milk as I cannot change my character role now. (Or can I?) ^_^;

  1. Do you have or know of any updated skill trees so I can get a better idea of how to level a healer?
  2. So what engineering BoFF abilities should I invest in buying or getting?
  3. Also one thing I have notice is that you can customize the attack (weapons), defense (engines), speed (thrusters), balanced modes can be customized.  Since the first 3 don't give much power to auxilary, is their a custom mode for power levels that you like to use when healing?

I haven't figured out the skill tree yet, still working on another build.  My plan is to max everything that boosts heals, hull strength and shield strength, the more HP you have the less heals you need for yourself, and use everything else into boost damage..

For skills I like to use Extend Shields 1 and 3 with Emergency Power to Shields 1 and 3, using Emergency Power to Shields first makes Extend Shields stronger, for shield heals and Engineering Team 1 and 3 and Auxiliary to Structural 1 for hull heals.  For science I'd go with Hazard Emitters and Transfer Shield Strength and add Science Team if you have room.

The third option for showing power levels allows you to set power to aux.  It makes it a slider, just click and drag it to max.  I like to use the Krenim Temporal Manipulation set with the Desperate Defenses set for healer builds.  Desperate Defenses makes you very tanky and gives you an AOE heal, both boost aux power, the Krenim console boost crtd and crth based on aux power and the Krenim core boosts your shield power by 7.5% of your aux power.
