Launch w/o Arc

I searched the forum and could not find a thread covering this subject.

Is it possible to launch STO w/o the Arc launcher?

You can! You need to go into the folder that STO is installed and use the Star Trek Online Application. This will bypass the arc launcher

I have used it, but find it to crash periodically... don't understand why, though.

The method above is how Steam works as well, since you don't launch via Arc.

Looks like there's a new Arc launcher coming soon. And there may be an advantage to using it - it'll let you earn Zen.

Appears to be quite a grind (of course) - complete a shedload of quests to earn 600 arc points, cash in 5000 of them for 500 Zen.

Just a note about the new arc launcher. Some of the daily quests on that is to play a game a X number of time. I have test this and it works, so you don't actually have to play the game just load its launcher. Still I agree with Sidorna, its a grind but what the heck I play anyway so might as well get something out of it

Only if you play more than one PWE game, other than that, I can't see much benefit personally.
