Brand New Player Feedback & Questions

I am a Gold member but after already paying $15/month (Not sure I want to pay $200 lifetime)
I will start by saying that I just started playing STO at the beginning of this month and I love the game. I have only 1 character, a FED Commander, Tactical DPS Escort driver. Many of the missions are fun including Foundry missions. (Very good work everyone) I am in a level 50 Fleet that isn't around much (It was started when the game started) but I get the benefit of having a Station, Mine, Spire, Research Lab and Embassy and the benefit of all the work that has gone on before I arrived. I want to play the game and do everything it has to offer but I don't like how it is so monetized. I know there are ships you get for free with a Promotion and some you can get for EC and Dilithium. I also even participated in a recent Groupees where I bought all the ships they offered for like $10. Each day after work I logon and see if I can contribute to Fleet projects: Officers and EC Commodites. I Mine Dilithium and do the few Fleet watch missions available. I send my Doffs off onto missions and do the 6000xp crafting quests to try and open up slots. (I should be opening up my 3rd tonight) I have never participated in a Fleet or PVP Mission and Run all missions on Elite. I have looked around the sites. STO Academy and asked questions of my own Fleet but there is still alot of stuff that just isn't obvious to know.

Boffs: I have 4 very rare Boffs that I use in my ship and Uncommon and Rare Boffs I use for ground missions. It seems you get enough of these.

Doffs: EC much? In order to get 'the good ones' you need to use the Exchange? And the prices...Way out of my league. How to get more of these without either having to spend EC or Zen? The Doff interface is confusing and I end up just showing the first officer that pops up into that mission slot.

Dilithium: I do the 1 mining mission from the Ferengi, Doff Missions, Missions and Fleet Mining mission. I think I have around 25k thus far. How to get more of this without Opening Lockboxes and spending Zen?

Ship and personal Equipment/Gear: Doing missions on Elite seems to afford a good mix of equipment. Right now I am in the Klingon Episodes due to my level. I want to go All Energy Cannon/Turret on my Escorts. I've seen several different builds and skillsets for that and i will be trying them as I go. STOAcademy has alot of info on this.

Question: Are there special missions that should be repeated for specific gear that is worth holding onto? I do die sometimes which is fine accept now the repair and medical bills are beginning to stack up.

Kits: ?
Personal Gear/Weapons?
Ship gear?

Fleet Credits and Marks: I know that they are good for some things but something is telling me to hold onto them but for what I'm not sure about. As with most things, unless you have alot I think they are just marginally useful. What am i saving them up for exactly?

Admiralty:

This Admiralty system seems very Zen expensive. First, you need slots for ships. Either regular slots or Drydock? Second, alot of the the nicer Admiralty ships require Zen to get.

To recap:
Membership: $15/month or lifetime $200
Ship Slots = Zen
DryDock Slots = Zen
Nicer Admiralty Ships = Zen
Lockboxes/Lobi? = Zen

I know this is long but after combing through alot of info I still seem to not be as informed as I'd like. And spending resources on stuff that I either don't need or will not be good later on is bothering me. Any help or information is welcome. I wished I was not involved in other games and had caught this one when it came out. It is really fun to play.

At Starfleet Academy / Klingon Academy and New Romulus Command, you can get Assignments from Personnel Officers in which you can recruit Personnel. Unfortunately those are of common quality only.
You could use Fleet Credits to buy DOFFs of higher rarity, but they are usually more expensive and also kinda random.

Maybe it is worth taking a look at this Beginner's Guide to use the exchange in order to acquire more Energy Credits.

Once you reach Level 50, you have access to a lot of PvE Queue missions, which you can use to earn Dilithium. Some episodes ultimately unlock daily repeatable missions ("Aiding the Deferi" from Breen Invasion Story arc). At Level 50 you have also access to the Reputation system. The several Reputations have their own Adventure / Battle Zones in which you can earn tons of Dilithium, most prominents the Voth Ground Battle Zone in the Dyson Sphere.

Here is an overview of Equipment Sets, that may peak your interest. Most of them can be earned/unlocked from the Reputations, some others by playing certain episodes.
You can also find special equipment at the Starbase, Embassy, Dilithium Mine, Spire and Research Lab of your fleet.

Weapons, Tactical Consoles, Science Consoles, Engineering Consoles, Warp Cores, Hangar Pets, Ground Kits.... The list goes on. Wink
My advice is to visit each Fleet Holding and take a look at the Vendors.

It is true, that you are a bit in the advance if you have bought some ships in the C-Store. Following the introduction of the Dry dock, I wouldn't bother to buy Ship Slots. As you are currently a Gold member, you should have 10 Dry dock Slots. If you have Ships you do not want to loose, transfer them to the Dry dock. Otherwise if you want to commission C-Store ships for the Admiralty system, commission the ship, wait a moment until it is registered and then discard the C-Store ship.
