New engineer needs help
#1
Hi guys

I came back to the game after a break of 2 years and my I am lost, I rolled an engineer to try to catch up and I am lost, I have made it to level 53 by pure sweat, tears and pain. I am trying to get a good build, I am using the last free ship you get and I need input or a link to a good guide to let me know what are the best ship offers (I am running a Fed Vulcan engineer), best skills, best weapons etc etc.

Thank you guys

The question you have to answer first is what do you want to do with your build.  Engineers are good for a lot of different builds.  Your heals make you good as a healer, because you can use them for yourself and your boff heals for allies, or a threat tank and your power level abilities and trait make you the best class for using cannons.  Everybody thinks tac officers are the best because of GDF and Alpha but there's a lot you can do with engineers too.  I'm starting on a tank/healer in the KDF War Command Cruiser now that I've hit my goal of 50k on my DPS toon.

That is a very broad question, as Eaglescout said, what do want to get out of a build....  I run an engineer as my main, but he is a more Damage/ Tactical orientated build. Another popular build for engineers is a tanking build, where the ship takes is able to withstand a lot of punishment.

Here is my avenger DPS build here... http://www.stoacademy.com/tools/skillpla...erdps_7241

Oh yes... Welcome back to STO, I hope that you will find it changed for the better (except the grinding of course. )

Wow you really put me in a crossroads, what direction to go? I think I like the path of Damage/Tactical build although healing is tempting. Hmm, I will try the Damage/Tactical building first.

Thank you guys for the suggestions. My current build is having a hard time, so I must do a whole lot of changes, about ship what is your suggestion for a Damage Tactical.

Also what are the best officers I need?

You are welcome, anyway the best type of build for you is the one that suits your play style.

Meanwhile regarding your question, could you create your current build on skill planner here on the STOA website so we can help you out about skills, BOFFS, DOFFS, and the build itself?

For the ship for a DPS engineer build, again it suits your play style, say you want a slow turing cruiser firing beams... here is a really good build for that....

Or if you prefer more turn rate go for an escort with more engineering console slots....

My build that I posted earlier tries to get the best of both worlds, with a good turn rate and doing damage.

Hope this helps,

Are you looking for a cheap build or a high end build?  I like the Fleet Guardian Cruiser for a DPS engineer but that takes ship modules to get and a very specific build to make work.

For someone that says they're lost it's not a bad build, it just needs focus and some refining.  This game sucks for teaching people how to build a ship, you have to go to other players to really learn what to do.  First thing I would recommend is if you can get the t5u Fleet Assault Cruiser, it's got a better boff layout and 2 more consoles.  It you can't we can still come up with something for this ship but the fleet ship will be a huge upgrade.

Oh great thanks, I am looking into that ship. I just got an upgrade doing the Butterfly mission, hopefully it pays off. I have made it to level 58 now, doing the chain in the Delta quadron. Trying to finish all the chains before focusing in getting my reputation up, right now I am just level 2 with 3 of the races.

I need help with the RD thing, where do I go to harvest the resources I need for RD?
