Some Starbase news from DStahl

ooooo I really like that idea. Built a fleet Starbase and then expand into the galaxy by exploring. I'm getting very excited for Season 6!

I just heard today that season 6 is expected NEXT summer. Granted the source was in-game, so probably not all that reliable. Nevertheless, I am also very excited for the new season and the updates it brings. I hope that the starbase will be as cool in-game as we are all imagining it to be. Based on the past "success" with new additions I must admit I'm skeptical. I am also optimistic, so I am fighting with myself a lot :lol: I am very anxious to see the new episode and playable faction that season 6 brings.

It is DEFINITELY not next summer. Season releases have never been spread apart by over a year, which is why we're already up to season 6 and only 2.5 years into the game. We'll definitely see Season 6 this summer.

FYI, Season 6 is NOT bringing a new playable faction. Cryptic was hoping to get the Romulan faction out this year but it doesn't look like that'll be happening. The best we can hope for is at the end of 2013.

I really don't know why I was excited for a new playable faction since the KDF is such a joke. I guess I was hoping that Cryptic would learn from their mistakes and make the Romulan gameplay better. I suppose I should hope that they would fix the KDF before they add what could turn out to be another mistake.

Either way, it will be nice to see what form these fleet starbases take, and what other changes they have in store for us.

They have said that they want the KDF to be on par with the Federation before starting work on the Romulans. So we'll see what happens. Personally, I wouldn't mind a whole season dedicated to the KDF.

In any case, I agree about the starbases and frankly all the changes coming to fleets. Apparently the fleet menu will be completely revamped. I'm very excited!

As torn as I am about it, I'm also excited. It'd be kinda cool to have an area like Starbase Sierra all to just the fleet. My only question is where in the heck will these starbases be in the sector map? There's how many large, popular fleets? Going by the last paragraph, I'm going to assume that several of the anamolies in the nebulae and clusters and going from there. Alternatively Cryptic could have an option for the Fleetmaster to pick which exploration area they want their starbase and before warping to the cluster, there's another option to go there in sector space for map transitioning. I would think that'd be the laziest and cheapest way of doing it. As for explorations and colonizations, would that mean that a whole fleet could, in theory, colonize a whole star cluster? If so, I call Coruscant! 8-) I mean.....

I don't think our starbases will be in exploration areas. They'll probably won't even be visible on the map. We'll most likely just have a "transwarp to fleet base" button and it'll bring us there.

I'm guessing it will work like the Captain's Table (the blue nebula around Earth Space Dock and Qo'noS). Lifetime and Veteran players can get to the Captain's Table through that nebula, but you don't see it on the main galaxy map. Same idea with the starbases. We can transwarp to it but you won't see it on the galaxy map.

Huh, I never thought of that. Too bad, I was kinda liking/hoping for my idea. Your idea sounds like an even lazier and less resource devoted method XD

If it's lazier and less resource intensive, that is the method Cryptic will probably choose!

Seriously though. Anyone want to start a pool on how many bugs there will be in the initial patch? Sounds like a great idea for a contest to me! I don't have access to the Captain's Table, but I've heard it's a pretty neat map. I can only hope they put some decent effort into the fleet starbases so they will be functional and attractive. I hope they include an exterior map as well.

I agree on the mapping. I feel that there should be a couple "customizable" designs that Cryptic should allow the Fleetmaster to use. Kinda like the different ship designs, just apply that to the starbases instead. Also, another thing that should be included is a dabo table. I'm sure several of us would be there abusing it, but hey, a vice is a vice

As for a bug contest theory, I'm sure there will be about 3 big bugs and 7 small ones.
