Your right in assuming STO isn't that demanding. I run an nVidea GTX 550 Ti on an old Pentium dual core E5800 and have no trouble running on high graphics settings. So, basically, anything you get today will do just fine. If your going with integrated graphics though, probably want to bump up the processor a bit. You certainly won't need the 8 core AMD though to run STO.

Well thats given me a nice benchmark on the graphics front - making me reconsider going for a dedicated gaming rig and sticking with the original plan to get a mac!

You're not gonna like me then!

Ordered a 27 inch iMac with GTX 775M graphics. From the benchmarks I've seen it should run STO without breaking a sweat Smile

The iMac didn't last long - dead pixel(s) on the screen so its been sent back. Going to build a pc instead so starting to pull hair out all over again about what my priorities are in a computer!

Traded my MSI GP60 laptop (not too bad, but not good enough...) for a desktop with 2013 "Ivy Bridge" CPU (instead of 2014's Haswell) but the video card is loads better (laptop has nVidia GT740m).
Machine is named "Snow White" for ... obvious ... reasons.

: Antech P180 Mini - White (hence the machine's name of "Snow-White")
: Intel Core i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz [3890.72 MHz]
: ASRock H77 Pro4-M
: 8GB DDR3 -1330 - Dual Channel
: AMD Radeon HD 7770 - 1GB GDDR5
: Intel 530 Series 120GB SSD
: Seagate Momentus XT (500gb - the original 4GB NAND)
: LG DVD-RW
: OCZ 600w PSU
: Logitegh G510s
: Logitech Maraton Mouse
: Logitech Gaming G27 Steering Wheel
: Acer H274HL - 27", 1920x1080 Monitor

When I relocated for work last year, before my house and all my computer gear came with me I picked up an Asus G75VW to use for a gaming machine. I have to say I was totally impressed with it and still use it as a secondary machine and a media player. It was able to handle just about any game I threw at it on max settings and I could run less intensive stuff like STO while watching a movie on a 2nd monitor.

Woot.com sometimes has these for under $1K as refurbs (that is what I got, but via Newegg). I don't know how Woot is for shipping to Europe, though.

Asus makes AMAZING gaming machines. When I bought my laptop in September - with a bursary - I had "$800", which I went over just to get the one I did, with craptacular video card. I COULD have submitted all the receipts, and taken EVERYTHING back to the store, and used the $1400 to get myself an Asus (I wish I had... ) but c'est le vie.

Quick Edit: This past Monday (Mar. 10/14) I got myself the CoolerMaster CM 690 Advanced II (USB 3.0 edition).
The case is bigger, but the hard drive mounting is far easier (I use an SSD and 2.5" Momentus XT) than the Antec.
