Tactical Officer Carrier piloting
#1
hey guys

Basically im interested in the Obelisk carrier or any carrier for that matter, but im a tactical officer, and ive always been told that a tac officer and carriers just simply do not mix well besides maybe the new escort carrier hybrids

But im interested in pure carriers such as the obelisk, the Atrox. etc

And im wondering if a tac officer can be a capable pilot/effective pilot in a carrier

Ive seen tactical captains be quite effective in the atrox.

It was serious business, and shit went down. Like ash ketchum when he throws a pokeball

James is right. My main Character used to be a Tactical Officer in a Caitian Atrox Carrier. If you are completely new to Carriers, then you need to keep the following items in mind:
  • a Carrier is not an Escort and turns worse than a Cruiser.
  • So do not use Torpedoes or Mines, you won't be able to use them effectively.
  • Instead go for Dual Beam Banks and Beam Arrays. Use the DBBs for max Damage on your initial approach and then broadside your target and assign your Carrier Pets to attack it.
  • Your Carrier Pets ARE your MAIN WEAPON. You must keep that in mind. Their Attacks make the Targets vulnerable enough for you to finish them.

I admit, that with Carriers it is either "You love them" OR "You hate them". However, Elite STFs with 5 Carriers in a Team are the most effecient ones I have ever seen.

So thats what that funny feeling is whenever I use a carrier...

I'm a tac. I love my escorts. I collect them and cherish them. But let me tell you, nothing kicks ass like my Jem'Hadar Dreadnought Carrier.

Whoever told you that tacs and carriers don't go together is rubbish. To highlight one of TPs points: Pets as main weapons. Nothing could be more true about carrier play. If you find a carrier you love and cherish the first thing you should do is grab some elite pets or at the very least blow some dil on advanced. Trust me, you notice the jump from standard blue pets in damage output and survivability because things going down faster means you get hurt less.

FYI, nothing like being a tac, popping Tactical Fleet and APB on your target and watching your pets go to town from 10 - 15km away Big Grin

I'm a tac and I love my Jem Dread carrier build. I also use plasma torps in a torp boat build on it; contrary to popular opinion it shreds things but you do need the Rom/Omega torps if you can afford them to make it succeed. Beams are great too especially a plasma beam build so you can do DOT to a lot of stuff over time while your pets get angry on everything in sight. I also had fun with the Armitage and Vesta line.

Try to find the Doffs which allow your carrier pets to rank up faster, this makes them very effective. Also I would suggest doing some research on which pets you want to go for; the Nukara and Romulan rep trees both have elite pets you can purchase, while if you own a Jem Attack Ship you can get elite Jem Attack pets for your Jem Dread. Fleet starbase sells Yellowstone, Delta Flyer, and Peregrine elite pets as well I believe. The Yellowstones are pretty good for crowd control as they have tractors, Tetryon-Plasma radiation cloud, and chroniton torpedoes. I use them on my Voth Bulwark.

I would agree with what TacPaddy has to say although I use my Armitage and would say that as well as Jem Dread is more for Tacs. The Obelisk is more for science like all the Dyson ships.

Really imo you can make any career work with any type of ship. Some will be a little better designed for the traditional role they fill yes but I have an Engi-Carrier that runs like a modified escort on the kdf side, a Tac Cruiser that is a escort for all intents on the fed side, and a tac carrier that is passable (Needs better pets to be good)

The Armitage is an Escort Carrier (one Hangar Bay) and represents a whole different way of Carrier Warfare. Smile

this is kinda what i said in my first post bugs me. i hate when people tell me "this class is for this ship" its highly annoying. because i have a tac officer. i dont want to level another character just for one ship, i want to grab a ship, i want to jump into it, and i want to use it because thats what i want

no offence to you intended btw, i know ur just saying what you know. im just saying i cant stand it

The Jem'Hadar ship costs lobi crystals. which comes from lockbox's. real money i dont have, the obelisk costs 2 fleet ship modules, which i can buy with EC.

So the obelisk is more attractive to me
