Skill set up for a Human VA Tactical Capt.
#1
What is good skill set up for a human VA tactical captian?I am thinking of retraing my Tac being my main.I got most of my point is my primary space and ground slots.I was wondering about engineering and science.

I do have my traits set up fine just wondering if skils would be best to reset.

Thanks.

What are you flying and what do you want to do? Here is my current build (with skills) http://www.stoacademy.com/tools/skillpla...lasma_3155

If you have specific questions, that would help get the answers you need.

Thanks for posting your layout robonixon. I’m in a similar situation to Age01. I just turned 50 but I’m still very new to
the game. I am tactical and I’m currently using the level 45 ship I got.
I put three polaron dual cannons on the front with a torpedo. Put three polaron turrets in back. Got the tac consoles all adding to the polaron.

So I’m just starting to think about better gear. I’m thinking I’ll start with the shields? I’ve seen the Adapted MACO mentioned a few times and I see that is what you have. I think I’m going to try for that first. That is a good idea?

In the end I want my ship to put out a lot of damage, but still have some survivability.

You might find some of this useful too Age01

I was wondering if it is best to have points in sub system repair and the ther human queality.

Morning Zayqar and Age01! That's my biggest issue with STO is you're level 50 before you can get acclimated to the game... I wish leveling took just a tad bit longer. Good thread and is making me want to try a new Tac build. Smile

That is no joke. I'm 50 and still a complete noob. There was a mission I couldn't do yesterday because I have not started the Breen Invasion. I am still at the Romulan Mystery lol. I guess on the positive side there is still a lot to figure out and a lot left to do.

Here is mine so far:

I want damage but I need to be able to survive a sphere on my own. So right now I am just running the elite omega mark PVE missions. Thinking I'll get shields first. Any suggestions on what I should change are appreciated.

I'll just do quick run through Boff stations
CmdTac: TT1, APB1, APO1, CRF3
Lt.CmdTac: TT1, HY2, CSV2
Spam TT as much as you can, best way to transfer shields to attacked side.
APO1 and CRF3 can be switched so you get CRF2 and APO3 if you like.
Rest is good, except for Ensign Sci, TSS1 will keep your shields up almost all time, I prefer it more then ST1 because of shared cooldown with rest of "Team" skills.
If you don't have, get Jem Hadar space set (MK XI) from missions, that will boost your Polaron guns even more (great set for starting with STF's)
Now for Consoles.
If you play a lot of STF's, for engineering slots are best Electroceramic (against Plasma damage), or even better if you can get Neutronium ones from Dilithium Mine (those have bonus stats)
Tactical and Science ones are good enough, but try to get as higher MK as you can (MK XII common ones are not expensive).

Your skill build could be improved too, do you have Respec Tokens or plan to get some soon?

Great. Thanks for the info Xhopeon. I have retrained the Boff stations. I’m going to test them out now.

I have heard of the Jem Hadar space set. I plan on doing those missions soon.

I don’t have a respec token. I have never respec’ed. I used to be a subscriber. Should I have a token?

With the ship I did kind of a noob thing. When I choose the ship I was just looking at the appearance. I thought I would get a new ship at 50. I thought I would choose the best ship at that point regardless of looks. It came to my surprise to find out no new free ship at 50. I maybe should have got the patrol escort at 45 instead. I am thinking of buying the mirror and trying it out.

Edit - I did have one Neutronium so I put it in. As far as the future goes, do you think working on Omega to get shields is the best path forward?

If you were under subscription while making this character, then you should have about 7 of those.
Best way to check it is to go to ESD and somewhere over there is Skill Trainer (not Boff one), when you start Respecializing, it will note you of how many you have.
If not, then it will cost you 500 Zen (about 65k Dil on current exchange rate), but you can do enough DPS with current setup, so no hurry, when you get to point where you'll go for C-store or Fleet ship then we can help you sort it out Wink

Here is my current build, you can ignore most of equipment and Boff stations, it is made mainly for PvP (not the best build, but great in last season of War Games).
Important stuff is under Skill Tree.
To convert this build from PvP to PvE, I would only change "Starship Auxiliary Performance" to 0 points and distribute 3 more to "Starship Projectile Weapon Spec", 3 to "Inertial Dampeners" and one to either "Shield Systems" or "Structural Integrity".
As I said, this build is not perfect, therefore should not be blindly followed, but you can look at it as a guide to increase survival without much loss of DPS.

EDIT:
While writing this you've edited your post.
Yes, IMHO, Omega Rep has best ones, but that depends mostly on which part of End game you will play most.
