Chat Window - Canup107 - 02-03-2014

Does a guide exist for using the chat window? I found one on youtube by sto, however, it only covers the very basics. I was in a game yesterday and was asked to invite someone. Like my second game with the fleet, and no clue how to help out. I am in the STO Academy channel. For example how do I know who is in the channel? How do I start a cse, ise? when if at all does voice comms take place? I get how to move between the channels and accept invites, but that's about it lol.

To invite someone to our Fleet Channel, you need to have Operator privileges, and all our Admiral ranks have it, so ask them in our channel to do it and send full name of new member you've invited into Fleet.
To set up channel and modify it as you wish, use instructions over here.

I have the channel set up and working. I just not versed on its operation. If someone see me online, canup@canup107 maybe you would be kind enough to walk me thru some simple operations. Sorry, I not versed on this stuff but in my defense this is my first pc game. I would like to be helpful in a room if someone asks me to do something ie invite someone to full up the room.

What are you considering as "simple" Operations? Here are the basic Chat commands.

RE: Chat Window - Attilio - 02-03-2014

Canup let's take this one step at a time. First, the chat channel is just used for chatting. If you want to set up an ISE for example, just ask in the chat if anyone wants to join you; or if you see someone else saying that they're setting it up and you want to join then just tell them you want to join.

You can't see a list of members in the channel; but if you go to the fleet window you can see who is online in the fleet. Unfortunately this doesn't cover all three of STOA's fleets, only the one you are in.

We don't use the game's built in voice chat. We have an external one (instructions on the fleet site). We primarily use it for War Games but sometimes we use it for other things. Most of the regular day to day chatting is done by typing in the channel.

Now by "room" what do you mean? Are you talking about the room before starting a mission such as ISE?

Yes, we were in "room" waiting to get enough people to start. Jules asked if I would invite someone to fill up the room. I saw the invite at the bottom of the window. Then I asked, who to invite? Jules said look at the list and copy and paste. I said what list?, he said at the bottom of the widow. At any rate, someone finally joined and we started. I forgot about the fleet window that says who is online now, maybe that was the window he was referring to. Thanks for the info, I totally forgot about the fleet window. I will look over the list that tac
linked and try it out tonight.

Hmm Jules could have meant the list when you click the Invite button; however if it's someone in the chat you can just right click the name and choose Invite to Challenge Match

Creating ESTF Private Match - Xhopeon - 02-04-2014

You are not first to ask such question, and it is great that you did, it gave me idea to make complete guide on how to start Private Fleet Action of any kind (STF's, Fleet Alerts, Colony Invasions and other)!
So here is what you should do, step by step with pictures Wink

1. To create match!
Select PvE icon that is below map up there in the corner (shown as 3 arrows)
After that you go into Create Private tab, scroll up and down in search for which one you want, select it and go for Create!

Be careful, as you can see, some are Ground and some are Space, it is shown with proper icon in front of name.

Now you get new small window where you choose Game Name of action (use something that might help if someone is kicked when entering map, Cryptic bug) and Password (it is optional, but I put qwe123 or something that's easy to remember if someone is kicked):

2. Inviting into Fleet Action!
There are 3 ways of doing it, sometimes one way won't work so it's good to know all tricks Wink

A. NOVICE MODE! "Easiest way to invite", right click on name from chat and choose Invite to Challenge Match:

B. ADVANCED MODE! "If first one doesn't work" way, or person can't be invited because of name (example: Biba L'oina@Xhopeon), first you click on Invite button from Action Window and then you select COMPLETE name with your mouse

and paste it with CTRL+V there

Note: sometimes you must put name in quote marks, example: "Biba L'oina@Xhopeon" , so it would work, but that happens sometimes if person is not in same Faction/Allegiance, has 2 names in front of handle or has apostrophe in it!

C. MASTER MODE! "Only if you know what you are doing" way!

This one is tricky because you get every person that is in any channel you are member of.
Other problem with it is that it refreshes names all time, so one check mark in wrong place and you might want to try again because when you select enough people to fill empty spots of Private Action, rest will grey out and you can't "uncheck" anyone.
Still, after it's been done couple of times, it becomes easiest way to invite Fleet members into action!

Same as in step A. you select Invite button on Private Action Window and then put check marks in front of names that will join you, after you select few (maximum is number of free spots in action) you hit Invite button.

After all that is done, ask in chat of Private Action Window what you don't understand about mission, who will do what, which tactic will be used in some missions and finally "ARE YOU ALL READY?"

I wish you many glorious battles that will rise your name as Honorable and Fierce warrior!

Dedicated to all new members/players that will find this guide useful, to our greatest Fleet in whole wide STO universe and especially thanks to everyone that helped me with their time to make those screenshots not so empty!
