First, thanks everyone for helping me with choosing my Klingon end game ships! The whole process has got me thinking about the Fed side a bit more, so I thought I'd ask again for your advice/experience.

I'm thinking about picking up the modules to get the fleet advanced research vessel retrofit or the long range science vessel. Currently I'm not happy with either of my science vessels (both mirror universe ones), and am basically using my Ambassador to use my science boff powers. So the Nebula looks like a good option--faster turn rate than the Ambassador, and the closest science vessels get to a tank. I'd probably outfit her with tetryon weapons, and would focus on tearing through shields so others can get to the hull.

The other option is to go with the long range science vessel--which I understand makes a great torpedo boat. I love the Intrepid design, and the ablative armour looks cool (though I've read that it's really just an "oh sh*t" button and doesn't help too much before it's almost too late). Better turn rate, less crew, less hull less shields. With this ship, I'd focus a bit more on DPS (as much as a sci ship could do) with things like transphasic torps that mostly bypass shields, or har'peng/plasma for DoT.

Has anyone played with either of these ships?

Unfortunately, I have no experience with either of those Vessel. Just a question since we are talking about T5 Science Vessels obviously: "Have you considered a Caitian Atrox Carrier?" The link shows my current build of my Atrox. As you can see, it features Tetryon Weapons as well and the Elite Scorpion Fighters are just deadly. I got first place in a Crystalline Catastrophe with this Baby.
To be entirely honest--no, it hadn't even crossed my mind. I'll have to give it a look. Smile

I like tanky ships, so this might be a good option. I have the Vo;Quv, which looks pretty similar, but haven't played with it too much yet. I picked up some Orion Slavers and plan to use it for ec/contraband farming, but haven't gotten around to it. Maybe I'll give it some more attention and see how I really like it. A carrier sounds like fun to play, but the turn rate holds me back. I guess when you have fighter pets, you don't need to move a lot, but it's a different play style.

It's got a great loot to it, though!
A big slow carrier is better with beams, so the turn rate isn't much of an issue. If I'm on as MonT, I'm normally in my carrier
There's also the Vesta class on the Fed side. If you go that route, pick up the entire set so you can use all three consoles. Has one hanger bay ( I have scorps in mine for now) so you can do fighter ops. The three consoles combined give you three different deflector skills plus a phaser attack. One of the deflector options is a definite "Oh Sh--" button as it makes you totally invulnerable but you can't fire out of it. They're also as maneuverable as an escort and come with Mk XII DHC phasers.

Pull the consoles to one ship, same with the DHCs and build from there if you like.
IIRC the vesta DHC are powered of Aux instead of weapons arent they? If so it might be the ship of choice for that reason alone as most sci powers are affected primarily by aux power also.

Or I could be completely wrong as I dont have a sci character Blush

You are correct! I'm itching to get my sci captain to 50 (hopefully this weekend) so I can set her up in one.
The vesta ships look nice, but I wouldn't spend the money to get all three. I like the idea of having a hanger bay with the danube, though. I believe the vesta ships are available on tribble, I'll have to check them out.

Only problem with not getting all three (aside from budgetary concerns) is that if you get one and like it, you'll want the rest of the consoles to really open up the one ship you do fly. On the upside, once you get the set, those ships are then available to any Fed toon on your account. So you could conceivably be flying a Vesta on every class. Make sure you check the consoles before assigning one to a character though. Otherwise you wind up going back and reassigning the ship later on. (Doesn't cost anything, just an annoyance.)

I'll confess that early on I decided if I was buying any ships from sets, I was just going to get the set and be done with it. Better that way than spending the extra $$ buying them separate.
Do the Odyessy/Vesta/Andorian packs give you all three ships, or one ship with all the consoles?
