I already know that roughly 90% of our Fleet members will never read this (that alone is sad enough), but I need to get this off my chest. For the past two years, despite all efforts of the Admiralty, the activities in the fleet have continuously declined. The Admirals constantly came up with new ideas to increase activity, but most of you just gave a damn. And it is most disappointing.
Technically, the STO Academy has reached a point where it can no longer be considered to be an active fleet. Why? Well, we no longer meet the criteria for it. A fleet in STO is the same as a guild in other MMOs. By definition, this means a group of players that play regularly together. Do we play regularly together? No, we don't. It rathers seems that the Fleet has become a massive parking lot for DOFFing/Admiralty Alts. If events are set up or someone wants to start spontaneous actions, the hosts figuratively have to get down on their knees and beg repeatedly before the most of you even consider to "lower" yourselves to play with us mere mortals. FYI: I no longer beg you. It is not worth my time.
Due to the horrendous lack of members willing to engage in fleet activities, there is no need for me (and potentially others as well) to log in on weekdays anymore as the european part of this fleets membership is either gone or also not giving a damn anymore. So for the few "active" members, that means to being "forced" to look forward to Saturdays, when the availibity of some dear friends in the U.S. happen to intersect with mine / ours.
Out of an average of 450 fleet members (by account), a medium one-digit percentage is truly dedicated to the fleet in one way or another and work their asses off, so that you can get all that fancy stuff from the Fleet Holdings. And what is the rest of you doing? Whatever it is, regarding to the fleet, it is not really noticeable. So, why are you in the fleet again?
By the way, what I loath most are the hypocrits who still haven't joined the chat channel. They range in the three-digit numbers and some of them have been members for years. Not joining the chat channel clearly means that there is no interest to have anything to do with the fleet. This defies the very reason for being in a fleet in the first place. So, why are they still members?
I do get, that some people are not comfortable with chatting. Some few members to which that applies, compensate by contributing to the Fleet Holdings often (which is awesome, btw). You don't wanna talk with us? Okay, that's fine. But is it so much of a problem to just x up occasionally to join a TFO fleet run and then type r when you are ready? I can not imagine that it would be, if communication on your part is limited to literally just two letters.
So now we have a fleet, with at least 90% of its members not giving any fuck. Hell, we even have members who had forum account issues for quite some time. But instead of rectifying that by contacting Attilio, they are rude to me. When I direct them to the forums for event details, I get a PM with "I have login issues!". And how exactly is that my problem? When I then direct them to the Event Calendar (which can be looked at without logging in), I get a PM with the blatant lie "It requires me to login in". So much for taking an effort. Thank you very much.
Curiously those few that are actually giving a damn and wanna play with each other, almost always happen to be active in the Legion. Seriously, what the hell is up with that?
Something needs to change. Radically. Yesteryear! If nothing changes, more and more dedicated members will be leaving and then this fleet would be truly defunct. As far as I see it, there are only two ways to rectify this. Either you all get off your lazy asses OR the fleet makes a hard reset and completely reinvents itself in a way that rewards/promotes members for taking an effort.
Personally, I would opt for the latter and I recommend that Fleet members are consulted for ideas.
You don't agree? Change my mind!
