I'm not sure what they do to know which to select once I have my 14. Can someone tell more more about them please?
You don't need to select. This event rewards you both weapons when you complete it so you can use both!
I don't know the weapons, please elucidate :
Press the "U" key on your keyboard. Click the Reputation tab. Click Events on the left menu. Choose one of the empty slots. Queue the Crystalline project. Put all 14 Crystal Shards in there. Wait for it to complete. Enjoy the rewards.

TBH I have not even looked at the weapon - I am in it for the dilithium.

Haha, the Dilithium and Marks are definitely the most appealing features of the project for me as well... 50k Dil for less than 3 hours work over the course of 14 days is a fairly good deal!
