can some experienced players please give me a bit of advice regarding the shuttle race?
I'm FAR away from the 150 seconds and already have a conductive rcs MK XIV and a very fast impulse engine.
It's more the handling and the fact that I can't find a first-person perspective with my ship. Did I miss something in the options? How do you handle this challenge?

Thanks for advice!

Moving this to Fleet Discussions.

First of all, Fighters are usually faster in base speed and more maneuverable then Runabout or Shuttles. Here is an overview, that you can sort accordingly.

Second, Engine Power equals Speed. Reroute you Power fully to the Engines. You can use the Enhanced Plasma Manifold Console to boost your Speed temporarily. You'll get it by buying the T1 Oberth Science Vessel or by buying the "Console Pack - Enhanced Plasma Manifold / Sabotage Probe Launcher" from the Exchange and chose accordingly. If you can't afford the Console, you can also chose to boost your Speed with Engine Batteries, however the boost is smaller.

You and me, brutha. Thinking it is going to take quite a bit of practice for me to nail this one. Confused

Okay, I just checked my stuff in game. This is my Vaadwaur Racer. It is a slow Fighter (standard 0.2 Impulse modifier), which is probably to balance for its integrated BO1 and the two BOFF Slots.

I recommend a Small Craft, that has both one Engineering Console Slot and one Engineering / Universal BOFF Slot. Put a Engineering BOFF with "Emergency Power to Engines 1" in it. This is sort of like an Engine Battery, but it also increases your Flight Speed.

Using the Iconian Engines and Warp Core will add +15 Engine Power at Mk XIV. As a nice side effect your Warp Core has an Engine Capacitor which works just like Engine Batteries. Put the Polaric Modulator from Delta Flight in the Engineering Console Slot and the Hydrodynamics Compensator from the Undine Reputation in any other Console Slot.. You gain an increase in your Flight Speed, Engine Power and Turn rate.

Also don't forget about Evasive Maneuvers. This will temporarily increase your Speed AND Turn rate, so use it with caution. You can use a Conn Officer DOFF, that will reduce the Evasive Maneuvers recharge, when you use EPtE.

In that configuration, my Vaadwaur Racer has 128/100 Engine Power. Using EPtE1, I get it up to 135/100. I made it to 136 seconds in this build. I probably would have been faster, if I'd be a bit better at piloting. Wink

Okay, I think that is all advice I can give you. Keep Chris's advice above about steering in mind as well. Most importantly: Never forget that practice makes perfect. I'm looking forward to log your Lap times. Wink
Wow, thats a lot of advice, thank you so much!
Will try it again tomorrow with the recommended setups.
And - now that I read this - made a lot of mistakes Wink

Will keep you posted regarding my development!

Indeed, thanks for the advice. I did not know about the 'fly-by-wire' with the mouse buttons. I got myself a peregrine fighter during the last ship sale to work on the race. Grind, grind, grind.

One additional info, that I forgot to mention. There is a Personal Space Trait called "Lead Foot", which comes in handy for the race as well as for Tour the Galaxy.
Holy guacamole, that went fast! just set a new personal record of 110! and I don't even have half of that stuff mentioned... woot! Big Grin

If at any point you go off the track, just exit and restart. You want a good clean run all the way through for the best possible time you can do. Thrill Seeker and Pedal to the Medal from the pilot spec may also be of help.

I know the record was like, 102? But maybe we should break it down into divisions: shuttle, flyer, runabout, or fighter... just like the Reno Air Races
Is this that mission that's in the main episodes seen and played by all factions? Anyway if it is, you've been duped.

I took this mission going on the other end of the scale. I did the worse possible speed ever taking more than a good 5 minutes possibly more maybe 7 or so minutes. And in the end, the stupid pirates still believe you got the fastest vehicle around. Huh

Don't waste your effort on this thing trying to get it to go fastest when in the end, you still get the pirates blasting you to want to steal your craft be it you got the slowest trash bucket in the galaxy or not. I found this out just by seeing if I can avoid confrontation with the pirates. Thinking that if I were the slowest time in the galaxy, the pirates would leave me alone. But do you think that would happen? No it did not.
