Full Version: Fleets, and how to...

Hello All,

A long time back I joined a Fleet. Over the years, I hit 50 and have gotten into the end game content. I would like to purchase Fleet stuff, and I am happy to work towards it.

My current fleet, won't allow access to purchasing Fleet stuff till being a Rank 5 officer of the Fleet. But, they won't tell me what I have to do to reach Rank 5. I have built up nearly 200k Fleet Credits in supporting the Fleet, but I don't feel I am getting anything back.

So;
1) Am I being impatient/unreasonable?
2) If I am not and it is time to change, are there better Fleets out there (ie, letting me have access to stuff - STO Academy maybe??)
3) If There is, who do I message/how do I go about swapping Fleets? I can't seem to see any way of quiting the Fleet I am in...

Any Thoughts???

Cheers

I suggest, you go with option number 2. Our Fleet Stores are open after you passed the two-week probationary period and we got plenty of provisions. http://fleet.stoacademy.com/
TacPaddy is right. Option 2. I joined the Fleet just after I started STO. Never regretted it. Friendly, helpful and fun.
In regards to your question about leaving a fleet. Click on the fleet window then go to the roster. I believe in the lower right corner is the Leave button. After that you can join another fleet.

I'll approach this from a different angle... and please understand I'm not an officer nor do I speak for the fleet. In fact I'm probably just regarded as a loud mouth pain in the as... moving forward. Tongue

If you like the members of your fleet, enjoy talking with and running STFs with them etc then don't let something like access to fleet gear bother you too much. We play these games to have fun and that's less about gear than it is about the people you play with. Without knowing what you consider a long time to be with a fleet, getting to 50 and generating 200k FC is something that can be done in a few weeks. So you might actually be being a bit unreasonable... there's just no real way to judge that fairly.

Then again if the fleet you're in has some idiotic requirement for promotion. If you spend more time pugging than working with the fleet. Or if in general you just aren't having fun with them. Then it is most certainly time to move on.

If you feel it's time to move on then it's probably time to move on. Nothing in game should ever detract from your idea of what's fun.

As for STO Academy... over all you couldn't ask for a more helpful group of active players. The rules that are in place and promotion scheme ( access to fleet gear ) are all reasonable.

Just my 2 cents

You're right (kidding of course).

Fair points, but honestly what's the point of being in a Fleet, if you can NOT benefit from its perks? I don't know that Fleets rank structure, but needing to get to Fleet Rank 5 in order to get access to the Fleet stores is way, way too restricitve for my personal taste, so I totally can understand the inquiry.

I totally agree with that. In addition, we have extra fun stuff like Commendations to get your contributions and overall efforts recognized (examples are right there at my Forum signature). And most of all, we are a casual fleet. We do not force anyone to do something they don't want to. Just passing a two-week probationary period, which is on the account-level btw. If you decided to join with more Characters later on, those would not have to wait another 2 weeks. Wink
My characters were in two different fleets before joining their faction's STO Academy equivalent and both had a similar stupid qualification structure in place with very unclear guidelines on promotions. I recommend swapping if you aren't personally attached as right now you will wait forever to reap the benefits of your hard work.
Hello All,

Thanks for the reply's. I did make the switch and I am very happy for doing so.

Looking back, now that I have seen a good/active Fleet, I can look back at the old Fleet and be fairly confident in saying it failed to deliver half the enthusiasm, camaraderie and helpfulness I have seen here in just a few days.

There was no community in the old Fleet. I never saw or heard from any Fleet members, so effectively I felt in a vacuum. In that sense, all I had was the next shinny bit of gear to look forward to.

I am not a hard core gamer, and while many can reach 50 and my levels of Fleet Credits  in a short time, it has taken me literally years to reach this point. As such, I had no real bench-mark, hence the cry for help which has been gratefully answered :-)

Thanks All,

Luke - The Butcher
