If I'm doing a cannon build with Prefire Chambers is it still best to stick to one damage type or is it better to just use the best I can find and not sorry about that?

Ex- Phaser Relays for a Phaser equipped ship. Energy specific consoles give a much higher boost than the prefire chambers.

So what is the best energy type? I've used mostly disruptor because of that being what I started with on my Klingon and I also used Polaron when I was using the Jem'Hadar set but I haven't tried anything else. There's not really a "Best" energy type. Each energy type has some form of special effect (plasma guns leave a DoT sometimes for example). Some are cheaper than others to set up and polaron is one of them. You can get the polaron specfic tac consoles reasonably cheaply. Don't be afraid to buy commons until you can afford the rarer types.

But, play what you enjoy. I got razzed for a cannon build on my Excelsior a few times, but it was FUN!
