If I'm doing a cannon build with Prefire Chambers is it still best to stick to one damage type or is it better to just use the best I can find and not sorry about that?

Better to choose a specific energy type, then get the consoles that are specific to boosting that particular weapon. Ex- Phaser Relays for a Phaser equipped ship. Energy specific consoles give a much higher boost than the prefire chambers.

Don't worry so much about boosting torps unless you are going to do a torpedo build. Some folks have good luck with that, but so far, I haven't liked those results.
The +WeaponType consoles all do less damage bonus overall than the +EnergyType ones, due to the fact that you can use them in more builds. You can certainly make it work but if you are going for max DPS then stick with one type.

It sounds like the best thing for me to do is use the best cannons I have for now but save the ones that are all the same and switch back to them when I have the money to get energy type consoles. So what is the best energy type? I've used mostly disruptor because of that being what I started with on my Klingon and I also used Polaron when I was using the Jem'Hadar set but I haven't tried anything else.
Disruptor, plasma and AP seem to be the most popular at the moment because of their procs. Phasers work well in PvP but in PvE there seem to be increasing numbers of targets that are resistant or immune to the phaser proc.

Don't go for AP unless you've got a decent crit chance, it's just a waste.

There's not really a "Best" energy type. Each energy type has some form of special effect (plasma guns leave a DoT sometimes for example). Some are cheaper than others to set up and polaron is one of them. You can get the polaron specfic tac consoles reasonably cheaply. Don't be afraid to buy commons until you can afford the rarer types.

I'm actually running two fleet class ships on polaron weapons because I have a large pile of Dyson gear on my Avenger and the MKXII Jem Hadar set on my Excelsior. The Avenger is built up as an escort cruiser with cannons and the Excelsior has been converted to a classic beam boat.

Both work quite well in elite STFs.

Here's the Avenger.. Auto targeting mods will be replaced by the Vulnerability Exploiters.. Half done there!

This is what I'm currently using but I'm thinking about switching back to beams when I unlock Romulan Plasma.

With that ship, I would definitely be going with beams. But, play what you enjoy. I got razzed for a cannon build on my Excelsior a few times, but it was FUN!

It is fun and does tons of damage when I can keep the enemy in front of me but it is hard to keep the enemy in front with the Negh'Var's turning rate. It's great for bigger ships that aren't anymore maneuverable than me but smaller ships can be hell to fight if they get close before I can bring my cannons to bear.

So where do you get very rare Disruptor Induction Coil MK XII in game? I'm using uncommons right now and there's no way I'm spending the 9,000,000 EC each that people want on the exchange.
